Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-04-13 · Version 1.0

Effective Date: April 13, 2026 Version: 1.0 Last Updated: April 13, 2026

FamBam Labs LLC ("FamBam," "we," "us," or "our") operates the FamBam mobile application and the website at fambam.app (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses FamBam, including parents, caregivers, teens, and children added to a household.

We wrote this policy in plain English because families — not lawyers — are our audience. If anything is unclear, email us at privacy@fambam.app.

1. Who We Are

FamBam is a family and household organization platform built for modern family structures — households that span more than one home, multi-generational families, blended families, and nanny shares. FamBam Labs LLC is a Texas limited liability company. Our support email is support@fambam.app and our privacy contact is privacy@fambam.app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Identity Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your name and email address
  • A password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store your plaintext password)
  • Your authentication method (email and password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In)
  • An optional profile photo

2.2 Household Information

When you use FamBam with your household ("Fam"), we collect and store content you and your household members create, including:

  • Household name and home city (you enter this yourself — we do not read your device GPS)
  • Calendar events, tasks, chores, meal plans, and shopping lists
  • Documents and photos you upload to the Info Locker
  • Notes and shared household knowledge

2.3 Information About Children Under 13

If you are a parent or legal guardian who adds a child under 13 to your household, FamBam collects only the minimum information needed to give that child a managed account:

  • The child's first name or nickname
  • The child's birth year and birth month (we deliberately do not store the birth day for children under 13, as required by COPPA data minimization)
  • The child's role (kid or teen) and household membership
  • A record of your parental consent (timestamp, consent method, and your user ID as the consenting parent)

Children under 13 never have their own login credentials, email address, or direct access to the Service. They are accessed through a parent's authenticated session or on a shared household device. See Section 7 for full details on children's privacy.

2.4 Device and Technical Information

When you use the FamBam app, we automatically collect:

  • Device name, model, operating system, and app version
  • Push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android, Apple Push Notification Service on iOS) so we can deliver reminders
  • Session tokens stored in your device's secure enclave (via expo-secure-store)
  • IP address and limited crash and session data via Sentry (see Section 4)

2.5 Voice and Media Information

If you use features that involve voice or media:

  • Voice input is captured when you use the Bam assistant's voice feature. Audio is sent to Google Speech Recognition for conversion to text and is not stored long-term by FamBam.
  • Photos you take with the in-app camera are stored in your household's Info Locker or processed by Google Gemini for document and image understanding (for example, reading a school flyer).
  • Photos saved to your device library are only saved when you explicitly tap to save them.

2.6 Email Content (Optional Feature)

If you choose to connect an email inbox using the JMAP protocol, FamBam retrieves and analyzes email content using Google Gemini to extract calendar events, tasks, and grocery items. We do not permanently store raw email content beyond what is needed to complete processing. This feature is strictly opt-in and can be disconnected at any time.

2.7 Location Information

FamBam uses only the home city and coordinates you provide during setup, and only to fetch weather forecasts from Open-Meteo. We do not access your device's GPS or track your physical location.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Let your household members share calendars, tasks, documents, and other content
  • Power the Bam AI assistant (see Section 4)
  • Send you reminders and notifications you've requested
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure
  • Diagnose crashes and improve app reliability
  • Communicate with you about service updates, security issues, and your account
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

Legal bases for processing (GDPR users): We process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), based on your consent (for optional features like AI processing of your content, email ingestion, and voice input), on our legitimate interests (improving the Service, preventing fraud and abuse), and to comply with legal obligations.

4. How AI Features Work

FamBam includes an AI assistant called Bam and several AI-assisted features. These are powered by two AI providers:

  • Anthropic Claude (claude-haiku and claude-sonnet models) powers conversational AI and assistant features. When you use Bam, your messages and relevant household context are sent to Anthropic for processing.
  • Google Gemini powers image generation, document understanding (e.g., reading school flyers), email analysis, and daily briefings. Your photos, document scans, and email content (if you've connected email) are sent to Google for processing.

What this means for you:

  • AI processing only happens for features you actively use.
  • AI providers process your content to return a result to you; they do not train their foundation models on your content under our API agreements.
  • AI outputs are generated by software and may contain errors. Always verify important information (dates, medical details, legal matters) from authoritative sources.
  • Children under 13 do not interact with Bam or any AI feature. No child content is sent to Anthropic, Google, or any other AI provider.

5. Who We Share Information With

FamBam does not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their role.

We may also share information to comply with law, respond to a valid legal process, protect the rights and safety of users, or in connection with a business transfer (merger, acquisition, or sale of assets), in which case we will notify you and give you a meaningful choice where required by law.

We do not share children's information with any of the above services beyond what is strictly necessary to operate the Service internally. In particular, no child data is sent to Anthropic, Google Gemini, Google Speech Recognition, or Sentry.

6. International Data Transfers

FamBam is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., including from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your home country. Where required by law, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards for these transfers.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

FamBam is intentionally designed for families that include children, and we take children's privacy seriously. This section describes how we handle information about children under 13 in compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").

7.1 Children Under 13 Are Added by Parents Only

Only a parent or legal guardian with an existing FamBam account (a household Captain or Co-Captain) can add a child under 13 to a household. Children cannot create their own FamBam account, cannot sign up directly, and do not receive login credentials.

7.2 What We Collect About Children

For a child under 13, we collect and store only:

  • The child's first name or nickname
  • Birth year and month (never the birth day)
  • The child's role in the household (kid or teen) and their membership record
  • Content the household creates about the child (assigned chores, completed tasks, allowance entries, calendar events the child is part of)
  • A parental consent record

We do not collect a child's email address, phone number, precise location, device identifiers, photos of the child (unless the parent uploads them to the household Info Locker), or any advertising identifiers.

7.3 How We Obtain Parental Consent

When a parent adds a child under 13, FamBam uses a verifiable parental consent method known as "email plus": the parent is already authenticated in the FamBam app, is shown a plain-language notice about what data will be collected and how it will be used, and must affirmatively confirm consent before the child account is created. We record the consent timestamp, the consenting parent's user ID, and the consent method. Because child data is used only internally and is not disclosed to third parties, email-plus is a permitted verifiable parental consent method under 16 C.F.R. § 312.5(b)(2).

7.4 How Children's Data Is Used

Children's data is used only to operate the Service within that child's household: showing their chores, tracking their tasks, and letting household members collaborate. We do not use children's data for:

  • Advertising or marketing of any kind
  • AI processing (Claude, Gemini, or any third-party AI provider)
  • Voice-to-text processing
  • Analytics or session replay (Sentry is disabled for kid accounts)
  • Profiling or behavioral tracking
  • Sharing with any third party, except as strictly necessary for FamBam's internal operations

7.5 Parental Rights

As a parent or legal guardian, you have the right to:

  • Review the information we have collected about your child
  • Correct any information about your child
  • Delete your child's account and all associated data
  • Revoke your consent at any time

You can exercise all of these rights directly in the FamBam app under Settings → Family, or by emailing privacy@fambam.app. If you revoke consent or delete the child's account, we will purge the child's data from our active systems within 30 days.

7.6 No Marketing to Children

FamBam does not show advertising to anyone, and especially not to children. We do not use children's information to market to them, and we do not permit third parties to do so either.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law. FamBam honors the rights below for all users, regardless of location, wherever practical.

8.1 Everyone

  • Access and export your data. You can export your FamBam data in a machine-readable format directly in the app (Settings → Privacy → Export Data).
  • Delete your account. You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). When you delete your account, your personal data is purged from our active systems within 30 days. Backup copies are retained for up to 30 additional days before being overwritten.
  • Update your information. You can edit your profile and household settings at any time.

8.2 Residents of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR)

You have the right to: access your data, correct inaccurate data, delete your data ("right to be forgotten"), restrict or object to processing, data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8.3 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete their personal information, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. FamBam does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise your rights, email privacy@fambam.app.

8.4 "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information"

FamBam does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have no mechanism to "opt out" of a sale because no sale occurs.

8.5 Canada (PIPEDA)

Canadian users have the right to access and correct their personal information held by FamBam and to withdraw consent for optional processing activities. Contact privacy@fambam.app to exercise these rights. You may also file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

8.6 How to Exercise Your Rights

For all rights listed above, you can either use the in-app controls or email privacy@fambam.app. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally 30 days, extendable in limited circumstances). We may need to verify your identity before responding.

9. Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary to provide the Service and comply with our legal obligations:

Sentry crash and session data90 days (per Sentry default retention)
Transactional email logs (SendGrid)30 days

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest, password hashing, secure enclave storage of session tokens, and principle-of-least-privilege access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep your data safe and will notify you in the event of a data breach affecting your personal information as required by law.

11. App Tracking and Advertising

FamBam does not track you across other companies' apps or websites and does not use your information for advertising. We have no third-party advertising SDKs in the app.

12. Device Permissions

FamBam requests only the permissions needed to make specific features work:

  • Camera — to scan flyers, permission slips, and documents for Bam to process
  • Microphone — to capture voice input for the Bam assistant
  • Speech Recognition — to convert voice to text
  • Photo Library (read) — to attach photos you choose to household content
  • Photo Library (write) — to save AI-generated images when you tap to save them
  • Face ID / Fingerprint — optional biometric app lock (biometric data never leaves your device)
  • Push Notifications — for reminders and household alerts

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time through your device's system settings.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Effective Date" at the top of this policy will always reflect the most recent version. Continuing to use FamBam after an update means you accept the updated policy.
